City of Falls Church Hosts Concerts in the Park
Thursdays, June 17-Aug. 5

Enjoy the best of summer at the 18th Annual Falls Church Concerts in the
Park series every Thursday at 7 p.m., June 17- Aug. 5. Bring a blanket
and a picnic and enjoy performances by local musicians. Each concert
also features local artists and their artwork. All concerts are free to
the public and are held at Cherry Hill Park (312 Park Ave.). In the
event of rain, concerts will be held in the Falls Church Community
Center located next to the park at 223 Little Falls St. For more
information, call 703-248-5077 (TTY 711).

The concerts are sponsored by the City of Falls Church Recreation &
Parks Division and the Village Preservation and Improvement Society,
with support from the Kokolopori Falls Church Sister City Partnership.
Local artists are sponsored by Falls Church Arts.

The City of Falls Church is committed to the letter and spirit of the

Tinner Hill Blues Festival - June 10-13

June 10-13 in Falls Church

Plans are underway for the annual Tinner Hill Blues Festival scheduled for June 10-13 in the City of Falls Church. Many of the events will be
free with all Blues, all weekend, all over town! Events will be held in Cherry Hill Park, the Cherry Hill Farmhouse, the Mary Riley Styles Public Library, and the Farmers Market. Ticketed events are planned for Thursday night and Sunday at the State Theatre and Bangkok Blues restaurant.

Scheduled performers include international sensation Pura Fe` and the "Godfather of Go-Go" Chuck Brown, Guitar Legend Bobby Parker & the Blues Night Band, Phil Wiggins & Corey Harris, Patty Reese and Miss Nadine Rae. Other entertainment will include Choo Choo Charlie harmonica workshop, panel discussion red, Black and Blues, exploring the influence of Native and African American on blues music and American culture, blues poetry reading at the library, children's activities, BBQ cook off and the premiere of an
original theatrical performance, Tinner Hill; Portraits in Black and White, at Creative Cauldron.

The Tinner Hill Blues Festival is a tribute to the late John Jackson, Piedmont blues icon, and is presented by the Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation and the City of Falls Church.

Fundraiser concert featuring Chuck Brown, King of Go-Go singing the blues with Blues Guitar Legend Bobby Parker and Miss Nadine Rae, plus
New York comedienne Nicky Sunshine performing. Chuck Brown, King of Go-Go and Mr. Bobby Parker, blues guitar legend, was recently listed by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the metropolitan Washington's "Hidden Gems"! Miss Nadine Rae is known throughout the region as "the lady with silky soulful voice". Nicky Sunshine, born and raised in Falls Church,

Tinner Hill: Portraits in Black & White, a theatrical premiere that takes a fresh look at the local history, through the lens of the pioneers who changed it forever. Stories are brought to life in dramatic monologues and scenes and woven together with blues music.

Falls Church Arts Exhibition - Step into a thought-provoking gallery installation by Falls Church Arts' member artists, which explore the cultural and political landscape of early Falls Church through historical documents, photographs, and biographies.

Red, Black and Blue; the Shared Blues Musical Traditions of Native and African Americans, an intriguing panel discussion on the influence and cross pollination of Natives and African Americans on American music, culture and history. The discussion will be facilitated by leading scholars and panelists include thnomusicologists, historians and fantastic performers from Canada and across the nation. Cutting edge scholarship, demonstrations and multimedia presentations will challenge and stretch our intellectual assumptions about Native American and African American interactions and their resulting contributions to American music, culture and history. The Tinner Hill Blues Festival will showcase many Native, African-American and shared heritage blues musicians, bringing an unforgettable day of beautiful heritage and potent blues to the Little City!

Memorial Day Festivities May 31 In the City of Falls Church

The 29th Annual City of Falls Church Memorial Day Parade & Festival will
be held rain or shine on Monday, May 31, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This free
event will feature:

- Don Beyer Volvo 3K Fun Run, 9 a.m., beginning at the Community Center,
223 Little Falls St.

- Fallen Veterans Ceremony, 11 a.m. at the Community Center

- Parade along Park Avenue, 2 p.m.

- Amusement rides, pony rides, arts and crafts, food, civic and business
booths, public safety tips, and on-stage entertainment, throughout the
day.
