Falls Church Memorial Day Fallen Veterans Ceremony Will Honor Stephan L. Mace - Soldier Killed in Iraq
Specialist Stephan L. Mace, a soldier killed in Iraq on Oct 3, 2009, will be honored during the Memorial Day commemoration at the Falls Church Veterans Memorial on Monday, May 31. The event will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Community Center, 223 Little Falls St., and Mace's family will be on hand to speak about their son and to receive a "Plaque of Honor." State Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple will express appreciation for his service on behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Mace was one of eight soldiers killed when about 300 insurgents mounted an attack on two remote military bases in the Kamdesh District of Nuristan Province, near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. He was a member of the 4th Brigade Combat Team stationed at Fort Carson, CO. He grew up...

Understanding the difference between our "Articles, News & Announcements" feature and "News & Announcements from the Community." "News & Announcements from the Community" is intended to be an organized community "blog" which enables all registered users to submit and self approve for posting news and announcements on a variety of topics relevant to daily life in our local region. That feature is unmoderated, thus registered users have the flexible ability to post news and announcements relative to the topic. Plans are underway for the annual Tinner Hill Blues Festival scheduled for June 10-13 in the City of Falls Church. Many of the events will be free with all Blues, all weekend, all over town! Events will be held in Cherry Hill Park, the Cherry Hill Farmhouse, the Mary Riley Styles Public Library, and the Farmers Market. Ticketed events are planned for Thursday night and Sunday at the State Theatre and Bangkok Blues restaurant.

- Fallen Veterans Ceremony, 11 a.m. at the Community Center
- Parade along Park Avenue, 2 p.m.
- Amusement rides, pony rides, arts and crafts, food, civic and business booths, public safety tips, and on-stage entertainment, throughout the day.

The Falls Church The Historic Church at The Falls Church. The first church to be built after it was established by the Colonial General Assembly in 1732 was a wooden building on this site as a part of Truro Parish . It was completed in 1734 by Richard Blackburn on land donated by John Trammell. Until that time, this area was served by clergyman who lived near present-day Quantico, and the nearest church was Occoquan Church near Lorton. The name "The Falls Church" came from its geographical location. Among the very few, widely separated churches in the parish, this church was identified as the one that was "near the falls" of the Potomac River.
